A russet iron namban dou of the yokohagi (horizontal plate) type. The main body of the dou being in excellent condition and dating to the Early Edo period with inner lacquer of Byakudan (clear reddish) lacquer over silver or tin leaf. Kusazuri dating to the edo period with modern restoration. Breast ring fittings and brass decorations on front gyoyo (epolettes) being modern replacements. In all a very nice and presentable piece dating to the edo period in excellent condition.
