Hampo (half face armor) 

 

The main face protector part of the hampo in iron with lacquer in very good condition. The three lame lacquered raw hide throat protector with losses to the lacquer. The lossed to the lacquer reveal very old Japanese characters written underneath the lacquer. This was likely done as a Buddhist protection prayer.

A special order item from a devout believer. 

Edo period. Dates from the 17th-19th century.
